Staff
Lynne Baldwin has a background in special education working with children and adolescents with functioning problems such as ADD/ADHD and learning disabilities such as dyslexia. She has a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from Stanford University. Lynne is a member of the International Dsylexia Association and of CHADD (a national organization for children and adults with ADD/ADHD. Lynne is a certified Parent-to-Parent trainer for CHADD.
Kevin Comartin has been with The Reading Clinic for over three years and has extensive experience working with families and children faced with academic issues. In addition to implementing reading and writing interventions at The Reading Clinic, Kevin has supervised training in the cognitive, academic, and behavioral assessment of school-aged children. He is currently completing his Masters in Clinical Child/School Psychology at California State University East Bay. Prior to entering graduate school, Kevin was Director of the The Reading Clinic in Palo Alto and Saratoga. Kevin currently splits his time between working with us and providing counseling services and academic interventions at a local elementary school.
Sarah Paulson graduated from San Jose State University in 2002 with her master’s degree in Speech Pathology and has been working full time as a speech therapist for the past 7 years. She was on the board for the Santa Clara County Speech and Hearing Association for 3 years (2004-2006) and was very involved in the organization. Sarah is also certified by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and licensed by the California Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology Board. She also participates in on-going continuing education in order to keep up with the most current research and techniques. During the summer of 2006, she attended Michelle Garcia Winner’s Center for Social Thinking Mentor Program and has attended many seminars focusing on “Social Thinking.” Sarah has worked with the Early Intervention population (0-3) for the past 6 years and is a vendor through San Andreas Regional Center (SARC).
Beth Powell has worked in the field of education for 15 years. After completing her BA degree in Math and her MA in Transformative Leadership with a focus on math education, she developed the Math with Ease® Program. Beth is also a musician and is part of the theatrical community. She was a consultant for the theatrical production of “Proof”.
Jonathan Purbeck has worked in education for the past 10 years as an administrator for The Governor's Reading Institutes at the Sacramento County Office of Education, and as a clinician for both The Reading Clinic and Lindamood-Bell Learning Processes in Palo Alto. He received his BA in Linguistics and Language Development from San Jose State University.
Laura Reedy is a licensed speech language pathologist. She has extensive training in the area of pediatrics from birth to adolescence. Laura has a passion for children and is highly creative in her ability to motivate beginning talkers and obtain their trust and rapport necessary to provide effective therapy. Laura holds a Masters Degree from San Jose State University in Speech Pathology and a Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. She participates in many continuing education workshops and is an active member of the Santa Clara County Speech Hearing Association (SCCSHA) and California Speech Hearing Association (CSHA).
Sharon Spieler, M.S., CF-SLP received her master's degree in Communicative Disorders from San Francisco State University. She holds a Rehabilitative Services Credential which allows her to practice speech language pathology in the school setting. Sharon has a bachelor’s degree in Women’s Studies, and a master’s degree in Applied Linguistics and English Language Teaching and Learning. Sharon is trained in the SCERTS model (Social Communication, Emotional Regulation, Transactional Support) for treatment of children with autism spectrum disorders. Prior to joining The Reading Clinic, Sharon worked in The San Jose clinic of The Center for Speech, Language, and Occupational Therapy (CSLOT), where she provided assessment and individual treatment services as well as treatment in the Early Intervention Clinic (EIC).
